Fresh Foods Wednesday #70

February 19, 2014 By Kristy Gardner 14 Comments

Good morning my friends and welcome to Fresh Foods Wednesday #70!

Fresh Foods Wednesday #70 Real Food Link Up - She Eats

I think we’ve maybe been getting a little too serious here on Fresh Foods Wednesday. I think instead of scaring you with complicated Feminist text books or rants about food politics, this week I’d rather just like to hear about the BEST thing in your life right now. What’s making you get up in the morning? What makes your day great? I’ll go first: my bed. I love my bed. Big fluffy blankets, way too many plush pillows, crisp clean sheets, and a book. Nothing gets me more excited and feels as good as my bed. I realize that saying my bed is what makes me get up in the morning could be contradictory to the very nature of bed - which is to lay down - but here’s the thing… The greatness, if you will… If I get out, it means I can get back in. I love to get up, have a cup of tea and some food and then retreat to my bed. I curl up in all that pillowy softness and I nap. I nap my ass off. It’s amazing. My bed, makes my day. Now, your turn. Go.

The Fresh Foods Wednesday #70 link up is to encourage fresh food production, consumption, activism, and awareness. Please feel free to link up posts containing:

  • CSA collections;
  • Farmer’s market treasures;
  • Home grown/raised hauls;
  • Recipes that feature fresh fruits and veggies that are seasonal to your area or feature local, sustainably farmed meats, eggs, and dairy;
  • DIY projects and tutorials for: gardening, storing and/or preserving fresh, real foods, composting market scraps, raising chickens in your back yard, small living, etc…

You may link up as many posts in a given week that you haven’t shared with the Wednesday Fresh Foods Link Up before by using the linky tool at the bottom of this post. Please make an effort to click on a few of the linked up posts and say hello by leaving a comment for your fellow fresh food communitarians and/or leave one here to tell us what you’ve shared – because it’s always nice to know someone thinks we’re doing a good job!

And if you like what you see here, please include a simple text link back to this link up in the post(s) you share or copy the code below and paste it into your post or an HTML widget in your sidebar.

    Good morning! Happy Wednesday.

    If I had to name just one, I would have to say my 2 year old. No terribles here! Lots of smiles and laughter and playing. It is so great to see how she is processing the world and learning. Who knew I would think the word “no” is cute.

    If my bed was as comfy as yours Kristy I don’t think I would ever get out of it. My family and my dog are the best and worst things in my life. They love my attention and I feel the same… but man they leave a lot of dirty dishes.

      It’s rare that I do Diane! 😉 I can’t wait till I get a dog and she’s the best and worst thing in my life. Just have her lick the plates and you’ll be golden!

    hmm, jealous that you get to read books. I used to, and one day I will again! I am blessed each day to wake up to a wonderful family that needs me as much as I need them!

    I know this is going to sound cheesy, but I am REALLY enjoying my kids this week! It’s February break and the Boy (after having brought home a less than ideal report card) is grounded from the Wii, IPad, etc. And he is reading books and playing games with his sister and just being a wonderful little person. This is all kinds of fun!
    (Of course, I have to take them to the grocery store in a couple minutes…)
    Because of the holiday, this week’s post… is actually from a year ago… The book “Anatomy of an Epidemic” explores the question: Are the drugs we take to combat metal illness actually making us sicker? And I explored the book.
    Hope you’re having a wonderful week! :)

      It’s not cheesy at all Christine! I’m so glad that so many people in my audience are surrounded by love! That’s incredible and no easy feat!

      PS. Hope the grocery store went okay! Eek!

    I remember sleeping in. And napping. And reading for more than 20 minutes at a stretch. I remember those days…then I had a kid. Now those days are gone. And I wake up each morning to a shortie staring at me from the bedside asking for Sesame Street.
    Ahhh…Bliss.
    Just kidding. I’d lay down in traffic for my offspring.
    Currently what is catapulting me out of bed is watching the quail hatch in my incubator. It always takes about 3 days for full hatch and every morning of those 3 days I feel anticipation much like childhood Christmas anticipation. How many today!?! Wheeee!
    (This morning I had 3.)
    I, as well, thank the stars for my bed. It’s a tempurpedic. I want to marry it but feel that kind of plural marriage would complicate things with my spouse. So i just sleep with it every night.

      hahahahaha - I know you would Lindsey. That being said, I wouldn’t. Well, I would for yours if they needed me to, but not for my kids because I’m not having any. Because I like my books more than I like them 😉 JK JK…. kind of….

      PS. I’ve been following on Instagram with the quail hatching! It’s amazing! And I’m so jealous!

    I should join in the “I love my bed” party, and I really really really do love mine* but I will say that Meghan is the BEST thing in my life right now. She linked up my Quick Pickled Beet and Herring Salad and the first two HashtagOrangeWeek posts-Orange Date Olive Oil Muffins and Orange Oatmeal Secret Ingredient Chocolate Chip Cookies-for me while I was down in Florida.
    *I’m home, I’m still sick (flying with a cold? sucks. I haven’t heard properly since I was on the runway preparing to leave Ohio) but last night I curled up in my own-tempurpedic-bed with my own-tempurpedic-pillow and slept 6 hours straight, up to pee and blow my nose, then slept another 5 hrs, woken only when the dogs decided I’d slept in enough and barked me awake. I love my bed. I’m sure it’s part of the reason why I don’t travel much. I never sleep as good as when I am home.
    I’ve got a turkey carcass simmering with Thai spices to make some sort of cold busting soup today, and even though she won’t be eating it due to the flesh, I will think of Meghan and her kindness. Because she rocks.

      Aw monkey!!! How are you feeling now? I hope you’re shaping up and feeling better. I also love that Meghan is the best thing in your life. She’s pretty high up there in mine too 😉

      PS. Let’s start an “I love my bed” club. It involves lots of napping.

 ...I think I got carried away. By the tequila. #BottomsUp #CookingWithCocktails #CookbookComingSoon #margaritaville I’m a firm believer that aliens exist. Happy almost Easter lovely loves! #perlafamiglia #perlafamigliabloggers #cookbooks #giveaway #whitecapbooks #bread #ItalianBread Well this week is bananas. Actually it's cucumbers and vodka and ALL KINDS of yum! I'm one and a half months out from finishing my cookbook! We have another couple weeks of recipe development and testing, a week to filter through the final feedback from testers, a week to reshoot any shots that make me cringe and then a tiny break before I plunge into the writing of the rest of the contents of the book. Holy shit balls. Manuscript and photos are due in to the publisher May 9 baby!!! I'm so grateful and so lucky to get to nurse this baby into being. And by nurse this baby, I mean both the book and this delicious cocktail. Which, incidentally, is making it into the book itself. It's been a crazy, delicious, boozy last few months and I'm thrilled to get to share it with you. But now: happy hour. Because God damn I need a break and it's sunny and beautiful outside. #CookingWithCocktails #CookbookComingSoon #Cheers #Gratitude The best thing about braiding Easter bread ..... is bread. Recipe coming this week on the blog. Just in time for Easter. Funny that. Happy Spring my loves. #SundaySupper #masterbaker #ItalianBread #firstdayofspring #eattheworld It's officially 4:40pm on a Saturday - do you know where your drink is? #WineTime #BottomsUp Homework this weekend....
